Round out my reviews of the latest 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures is Fishface! Fishface kind of suffers from some of the same problems as Dogpound when it comes to articulation. Again, Fishface isn’t a bad figure, it’s just not a good one, and unfortunately unlike Dogpound, Fishface doesn’t have the size and bulk to sweeten the deal.

From what I can tell, Fishface’s head seems to be fairly accurate to what’s on the back of the package, but we’ll see once the show airs. The neck is able to swivel, but the orange breathing apparatus restricts the movement if you turn it too far. It’s nothing bad as you still get enough movement, it’s just something worth noting.

Fishface’s shoulders are on a ball-joint and do have plenty of articulation thankfully. No elbow articulation, but there is a wrist swivel, so angling the sword and dagger becomes much easier due to the weird positioning of the arms, which unfortunately without any elbow articulation, you can’t do anything about.

Fishface’s tail can swivel around, which is actually a pretty good detail if you ask me. The waist is also able to be swiveled, although mine took some force to get unstuck. The hips do have articulation, but it’s just a swivel, so it’s nothing special, which is a shame because even Dogpound had some great hip movement. No knee or ankle articulation whatsoever.

Fishface does come with some pretty cool accessories: a big ass sword (which looks great with other figures) and a smaller dagger. Although these don’t make up for the lack of articulation in the rest of Fishface, they’re a nice component nonetheless. I’m not sure why such a small figure has such a big sword, but I guess we’ll find out in the coming weeks!

Overall, Fishface is probably my least favorite in the second wave of TMNT figures. Unless you’re a diehard fan like me, I’m honestly not sure I can recommend him like I could Metalhead, or even Dogpound. Again, ebay prices right now are way too high I’m sure, so if you’re interested just wait until retail.

Anyone up for a puppet show?

I wonder if that's a chestplate or a sports bra…
I'll take a big sword over crap paint anyday.
So far I'm pretty unimpressed with any of the figures except the 4 turtles and Metalhead. I feel like they put a lot of really great work into the turtles and then just tried to punch out the villains and sidekick characters as quickly as they could get away with. I can understand why, but for someone like me who's just a very casual sometimes collector it's not worth it. Though I'm sure kids will eat them up like I did when I was younger.
I couldn't agree more. While I'm still a huge fan of TMNT and the toy line, after I initially picked up the first 4 turtles I was so excited to get everything else. Then when I got Kraang everything went down hill.
Great review! I have been searching around for a Metalhead with no luck!! I’m glad we are seeing some weirdos in this line now!
This guy looks pretty awesome! Thanks for doing reviews on these! So I like this guy, but again with the elbows?!?! WTH?!? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I would still love to add this guy to my collection!
Yea, it's unfortunate about the elbows
I really like this figure, I think I like him more than Metalhead. Although I do wish he had more articulation, I think what he has is decent. Mine does have a swivel waste, so maybe yours is just stuck. Also, in addition to the neck swivel his face can tilt back and forth allowing some more personality to come through.
I did have to paint his wrist gauntlets silver and continue the white from his chest down to his tail, just to make him look a little closer to the prototype figure.
I knew it!!! I knew the waist looked like it could swivel, but mine just wouldn't budge.
the sword looks like it has butterfly knife-style joints where the grip and the guard attach – perhaps it is a swooshy reveal-a-sword?
Be on the lookout. The early production Metalheads around the southeast have a packaging error on the cross sell. The image of Raphael is repeated for Raph and Michelangelo. We have about 3 units per store. Unfortunately the figures seem to be piling up. Help promote the line and buy deep if you can, you wont regret it!
