Being an absolute huge fan of the first Lost Planet game, I admittedly have yet to pickup and play any of Lost Planet 2. I had heard some mixed reviews about the game, and kind of wanted to preserve my affection for the first game without tainting it with a poorly done sequel. I know, that reason is absolutely ludicrous, but I guess I’m just someone who HATES FUN.

And yet, here I am, in the same situation I’ve been in many times, looking at something ThreeA has done, and now wanting to mercilessly purchase it. If ThreeA’s 1/6 take on the Merc is anything like their take on Commander Carter, color me intrigued. Preorders go live on June 22nd at Bambalandstore.com!

I was honestly a little skeptic about Bandai’s rendition of Iron Man in their popular S.H. Figuarts line when it was first announced. Don’t get me wrong, I’m as big an Iron Man fan as the next guy, but the second movie wasn’t my favorite, and after seeing the Mark VII suit in the Avengers everything prior seemed pretty crappy. While I’m eating the words that I had to say about SHF Iron Man earlier this year, I’m excited to say that this iteration of Iron Man is awesome.

Starting with Iron Man’s head, the sculpt is very accurate with most of the Mark VI photos and art I’ve seen, and the way this area is articulated is freaking awesome. I was a bit worried that due to the bulkiness of the suit that the head and neck area was going to be considered too big of a challenge and be ignored, but Bandai did the complete opposite. Not only is the actual head fairly well articulated (keyword: fairly), but the neck is where you get most of the movement, and it does a great job of masking ugly points of articulation by seamlessly transitioning back and forth.

The shoulders work like most other S.H. Figuarts in the sense that they plug into the torso via a ball-joint, and much like Wild Tiger and Bunny, the pauldrons hinge upwards. Iron Man has bicep swivels where the silver/gold section of the arms meet the red in the shoulder, and the elbows are double-jointed with a huge range-of-motion. The small red elbow pad on the elbows is also hinged for some minor detailing. The hands plug into the wrists via a ball-joint, and the hands also have a neat little hinged flap on the back of them, which I’m assuming has something to do with flying.

Above everything else awesome about S.H. Figuarts Iron Man, and what I believe to be the new standard in Bandai’s torso articulation, is the articulation in Iron Man’s chest and waist. Unfortunately when you think of armored figures such as Iron Man, you’re probably thinking of something with bulky and inhibited movement, especially in the trunk of the figure’s body. This is definitely not the case with SHF Iron Man, as he’s got a ton of points of articulation in the torso allowing him to twist, turn, bend, and everything in between. Not only am I impressed that Bandai included this much articulation, but they did it in a way that still preserves the detail and sculpt of Iron Man’s suit. Seriously, it’s amazing.

Iron Man’s hips are ball-jointed in typical Figuarts fashion, and he also has a thigh swivel right where the gold meets the legs, and once again, it does an excellent job not only with the articulation, but also with keeping things flush. The knees are double-jointed and while they do their job well, they can tend to look a little off when extended all the way. Not really a detriment to the figure though, as it’s really the only way the knees could be done at this scale, but they do tend to look a little large and weird when fully extended (think Play Arts Kai knees, although not quite that bad).

Taking some retrospected hints from the similarly built Wild Tiger and Barnaby Brooks, I figured that Iron Man would come with some pretty crappy articulation in the feet. Bulky armor and ankle rockers? That’s usually a no-no. Thankfully though, Bandai has yet again impressed me by not only including ankle rocker joints, but ankle rocker joints that have a pretty damn good range-of-motion. Along with the front toe piece being hinged, it is also diecast along with the heel of the foot.

Sure, the base figure of S.H. Figuarts Iron Man is great and all, but what about the accessories? Thankfully, S.H. Figuarts Iron Man has them covered. Along with 4 pairs of hands, Iron Man includes some armor parts for flying (again like the wrist flaps, they seem to be air rudders of some sort), as well effect parts for both flying and offensive combat.

No complaints here, but I do wish that some more unique effect parts for combat were included. While they do look great, they’re essentially just longer versions of the effect parts used for flying. I wish Bandai would’ve went with a blue color for these instead. And maybe I’m just bitching too much, but I think a unique stand could’ve really been huge as well for Iron Man (and War Machine).

Overall, S.H. Figuarts Iron Man is, in my opinion, one of the best Tamashii Nations toys to come out this year. While I’m still not completely taken in by the Mark IV, the way Bandai handled articulation and execution makes me forget about all of those nitpicky things. If you’re on the fence about Iron Man for any reason, go buy him as quick as possible!

<img class="aligncenter wp-image-6774" title="S.H.
What is anime colors Piccolo, you ask? It’s obvious it’s the version from the DBZ anime, but not a whole lot will be changed. The current release of S.H. Figuarts Piccolo has a red belt, with yellow “muscle accents” (for lack of a better word), while the anime colors release will have a blue belt with the red muscle accents.

Now that everyone is getting in their S.H. Figuarts Iron Man and War Machine figures (and mine should be here soon!), I figured it’d be fun to do a little survey on what suit you’d like to see Bandai tackle next. Now of course I cant list every freaking million suit variation, so I’m gonna stick to the basics, and sadly that includes the Steel-cut oatmeal suit, better known as the Mark 42.

Expect reviews for both Iron Man and War Machine to come within the next week or so (and Suri is back with the War Machine review!), but until then, feel free to vote below or comment which suit you’d like to see!

If you’re not watching the Spring anime season’s hit anime, Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin), I’m really not sure what you’re doing with your life. It’s chock full of 3-story tall genital-lacking giants, an abundance of potatoes, and what’s an anime without teen angst? Seriously though, Attack on Titan is quickly becoming my favorite anime shows currently airing for so many reasons I can’t list them all. Humanity’s last salvation being attacked by Titans, technology allowing soldiers to swing from building-to-building like Spidey, and without spoiling too much, visits from old friends once lost.

While AoT hasn’t had any toy merchandise yet, due to the popularity of the show in Japan (it’s becoming a cultural phenomenom at this point) I’m sure we’ll see something announced soon. Although currently Max Factory has the license (Figma, some Nendoroids), I’ll be branching out a little farther with this top 5 list. While limit this pipe-dream of an article to just Figmas? After all, a Titan’s gotta eat.

5. Figma Eren

This one’s pretty self-explanatory. The main protagonist of Attack on Titan, Eren Jaeger would make a great figure. While I think Bandai might do a little better job with the dynamic posing, I’ll give the nod to Max Factory with this one simply because of their affinity for anime faces. Plus they already own the license.

4. Nendoroid Colossal Titan

Something that actually already had a prototype produced (although it was just 3D printed version for a for-fun competition) a Nendoroid version of the Colossal Titan would be too stupid to not buy. Can you imagine if it looked anything like this keychain?

3. Figma Mikasa

A Figma version of Mikasa is actually something I could see legitimately being shown at the next Wonder Festival. Combine her seemingly limitless badassery with her sex appeal and you’ve got an in-demand toy by most’s standards.

2. S.H. MonsterArts Armored Titan

In my opinion, the Armored Titan might be the most intimidating character I’ve seen in a while. Sans the weirdly out of place crew cut, the Armored Titan would be worthy of the S.H. MonsterArts tag. How would he fair against a similarly sized Godzilla or King Kong? Only one way to find out.

1. S.H. MonsterArts Colossal Titan

Can you tell that I really want SHM versions of the Titans? Anyway, a Colossal Titan in this toy line has really been a dream of mine since the second or so episode. Much like my opinions on the Armored Titan, I really think Bandai could do a killer job on these guys with the aesthetic and articulation.

I can remember playing the hell out of Kid Icarus for Wii’s Virtual Console when it was first released. Then came Super Smash Brothers Brawl where I absolutely hated playing against Pit. Now, thanks to Kid Icarus: Uprising for 3DS, Max Factory has finally released Pit in their popular figma line. While there are some downsides to this version of Pit, it does do a great job of portraying the overall character and adding another character to your Super Smash diorama. Now where’s Mr. Game & Watch at, Max Factory?

Pit comes with 2 head sculpts, each with their own personality. One shows Pit’s lighter side, while the other is a more focused and angered version of Pit. Both look great, and Max Factory really nailed the look down from KI: Uprising art. Pit’s head is on a standard Figma joint that allows for it to be swiveled, as well as move forward and backward.

Pit’s shoulders are ball-jointed for a good range of movement, and while there’s technically no bicep swivel, the arm itself is able to twist around the ball-jointed shoulder to copy somewhat of a bicep swivel movement. The elbows are hinged, and while I don’t have any real complaints, Pit’s chunky forearms technically restrict some of the joint’s movement. This really becomes noticeable when posing Pit drawing his bow, where you unfortunately can’t really get Pit’s arms with the bow close and parallel to his body. The wrists have a little bit of movement, but once again, the big forearms tend to get in the way of what little movement there is.

The wings on Pit’s back have a couple of points of movement, both in the wings themselves and at the base of them. Pit’s wings are hinged close to the middle to allow for a “flapping” effect, while… The entire wing structures are also able to be swiveled up and down on the back depending how high or low you want them to sit. Pit’s waist is also able to swiveled around along with a little front to back wiggle.

Pit’s hips are ball-jointed, and while they do their job well, he really could’ve used a dedicated thigh swivel. The hips allow for some swivel movement, but not as much as I would’ve liked. Pit’s knees are hinged, and much like the wrists, the ankles and feet lack much articulation. While the feet are technically probably connected to the legs with a ball or hinge-joint, most of the movement comes with a side-to-side swivel.

Pit does come with some pretty cool accessories. Along with the two faces and 7 hands (3 pair + 1 for the bow), Pit comes with his Palutena bow (which splits in two to make the double swords), two light rings that attach to his right wrist, two light rings that the arrow is inserted into to give the illusion they’re floating when the bow is drawn, and a scale version of the Kid Icarus series enemy cannon fodder, the Monoeye (along with a stand). And its eye can actually move!

No complaints from me accessory wise, although the included Monoeye has a pretty significant mold crease down the middle. Nothing major as it’s not a part of the figure itself, just something worth noting. Much like typical Figma fashion, the included hands and other accessories work almost perfectly.

Overall, I think Figma Pit is a great addition to anyone’s collection. He’s a cool toy with a great look and some excellent accessories. While I do feel there are some minor setbacks, such as the wrists and feet, he’s a great figure overall that has me really regretting passing up Dark Pit.

It seems like 3rd party Transformers products are being pumped out at an alarming rate, with what seems like just as many companies to accompany said products. While everyone knows of the juggernauts such as Fansproject and Mastermind Creations, it’s always refreshing and interesting to see new competitors not only enter the business, but to be successful in doing so (MECH iDEAS comes to mind as being one of those guys).

If you’re like me and brave the cesspool that is TFW2005 every once and a while, I’m sure you’ve stumbled upon a new 3rd party company going by Mach 5. Mach 5 seems to have started the process of teasing their new aspirations as a company about a week ago on their Facebook page, and I have to say I’m initially very impressed with what they’re doing. More Wreckers? Count me in.

Known as Gauntlet and Piston, Mach 5′s first releases are their renditions of Ironfist and Crankcase, respectively. While we haven’t seen a whole lot of either yet, Mach 5 has been kind enough to post some digital mockups, as well as a single physical, 3-d printed mockup. Although no official sizing has been revealed, Mach 5 has stated that they will be in between scout and deluxe size. Pricing will be revealed next week, but $45 per figure has been hinted at!

So far I’m really excited about Mach 5′s first two iterations in their (hopefully extensive) line of toys. While it’s early to vouch for the quality of the toys themselves, I think Mach 5 has a promising future. After all, I, like many others absolutely love supporting a new company who takes time to interact with fans and answer questions. That goes a long way in my book, as often many of these companies are simply in it for the money and are no where to be found for interaction.

While the Weekly Poll topics are usually something directly pertaining to whatever toy line I’m excited about (or pissed about) that week, I thought I’d do something a little different and ask for some feedback from you guys. Have anything you’d like to recommend to me? Toy lines? Things to review? Or if you just want to tell me your opinion on how much you hate this pathetic excuse for a website, that’s cool too! Feel free to answer the poll below, as well as leave any criticism or comments in the comment section below! Any opinions are welcome, please!

Thanks to a magazine scan from Japanese image board, 2chan, the next figure in the S.H. MonsterArts line has been announced! Straight out of 2002′s Godzilla against Mechagodzilla, the Millenium version of Mechagodzilla is ready to fight his already released Chogokin counterpart this September.

<img class="aligncenter wp-image-6626" alt="S.H.
While this isn’t my favorite design for Mecha G (Heisei still reigns supreme), I’m glad Bandai has branched out to the Millenium era films. Maybe they’ll do Broderickzilla next?! I kid, I kid… I am hoping for a Monster X MonsterArt now that Bandai’s dipped into Millenium territory.
